Coming of Spring (Section 1, p11)
A fair!
First one — of spring!
Fluttering colorful canopies, girls’ white kerchiefs,
bright-green feathers on hunters’ hats. Traders’
big coattails and wide sleeves full of warm wind —
Forest she-birds crazed in cages.
Lambkins’ bells, bearded shepherds, yellow goat cheeses,
young farm women with hot breath, sunburnt arms,
pots of pungent honey, baskets of blue blossoms — — —
Drink:
Drink thick wine — scoop handfuls of the early cherries.
May your lips sweeten, may your hearts sweeten.
Earth has again spread its first harvest.
Earth will bless you once again, forgive your faults.
